College Fashionista!

Hey,

So, I was featured on collegefashionista.com!
Not, only do I have an interest in makeup, I also love fashion! This website is great place to get inspiration for outfits, because most of the people featured, are on a budget (I hope!) but making most of their resources.
Ahhh, another joy of being 20.

Lovely Sunset

I was walking back from the gym today and the sun was setting. I usually don't stop and look at things when I have my ipod plugged in and I'm jammin back to my dorm, but this was quite a sight.
It made me really appreciate the bigger things in life and made the less important problems in my life obsolete.
I was also inspired! The color of the sky was a really pretty pink and purple. I think most people have seen a sunset like this and agree it is stunning!

Here is my makeup take on it

AZN ALERT lol

I got this look by using my blessed Urban Decay Book of Shadows Volume 2 full of all sorts of pretty little colors to play with!
Photobucket

The colors I used were Sphynx, AC/DC, Ecstasy, Gunmetal, and Perversion.
I checked online and this book of shadows is selling for upwards of $100!!! KRAAAZAY
Thank god I got mine as soon as it came out. I guess sometime it pays to be an impulse buyer lol. (most of the time it doesn't! My wallet gets sad.)

Well I'm going to try and get some sleep even though there is a drunk guy screaming profanities in the hall and the girl next door to me is having very loud uninhibited sex. Ohhhhhh college...

Quick and Simple Smokey Eyes

As a college kid, I feel like life is non-stop. I'm always having to do something, or a deadline is coming up, or there are 50 projects going on at the same time.
There are even times when I'm going out for the night and have to be out the door in 10 minutes. I have come up with a solution when time is running out and I needa look glam as quickly as possible.
This is a sparkly smokey eye that I do for those special times of 10 minute craziness!

Photobucket

SMILE :)

This literally only takes like 10 minutes, and I think its the slight messiness of it that I like. Of course I could take much more time and make a neater smokey eye, but sometimes I just can't allot that much time.

Products used:

1) Urban decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil
2) any sparkly silver eyeshadow (I used a limited edition heidi klum palette from VS so it's not in stores anymore I don't think.)
3) MAC plushlash mascara
4) Revlon Superlustrous Lipstick in Just Enough Buff (have you seen all those ads w/ Hally Berry rockin this shade?)

How to:

1) Line thickly all around eyes, and in the water line with UD pencil
2) sweep silver shadow on top lids, then take a small brush and blend the black eyeliner with the silver shadow
3) Line top lids again with liner
4) on bottom lash line blend the liner out so it's smudgy, then sweep a bit of silver over the smudged black
5) curl lashes and put on 3 coats of volumizing mascara
6) finish with nude lipstick

Pretty simple! And don't worry about being perfect smokey eyes are rarely perfect

Of course, I don't know what works best for you but this is how I did it on myself. Feel free to play around with it and see what works! That's why I find makeup to be so much fun :)

The Importance of Concealer

So this may seem like such a trivial topic. Everyone knows about concealer blah blah blah. But wait right there. You would be surprised to know how many people don't know about it at all. And how do I know this? Well, I'm in college so I see left and right all these tired kids walking around sleep deprived from studying all night long or staying out all night long. Either way there is lots of puffiness and dark circles going on. And maybe beauty is not their number one priority, and I hear them out cuz there are days I'm like, "I DON'T CARE WHAT I LOOK LIKE."
But given the chance to look awake and alert, or groggy and grumpy, I will take the ladder.
Also, some people just inherited thinner skin around the eyes and naturally have bags and/or dark circles.
Concealer to the rescue!
To illustrate I will use myself as an example. Prepare yourselves, the following images may be disturbing LOL

No Makeup or Concealer (EEK!)
Photobucket
Note that my dark circles and bags are no where near severe, but I still use concealer to brighten the whole area up anyways. You should see me in the mornings, it's quite lovely :P

With concealer

Photobucket
BAM! Looks like I got some sleep in and I'm ready to face the day!

See what I mean? It's always nice to look awake. Remember, concealer should be one shade lighter than your skin tone since it's just for those pesky dark circles. But don't go too light people because it will look obvious, especially in photos. I have had some bad experiences like that when I started to use concealer. I thought I looked pretty good then I saw pictures and wow. lol

Rihanna is such a regular culprit of this and I don't get it! Her makeup is really beautiful but it doesn't match her skin a lot of the time. SIGH girl has the moola to do better than this.
too light concealer

Recommendations:
1) Stila Illuminating Concealer $22- I LOVE STILA
2) Bobbi Brown Tinted Eye Brightener $32- Bobbi Brown be my GIRL! I have used this over and over again. It's for not that severe circles so it's kinda sheer but it does the job for me. I used it in the above pictures. Not cakey at all
3) Yves Saint Laurent Beauty Touche Eclat $40- Personally never used it, but a lot of people seemed to like it, so if you got the money, try it out!
4) TimeBalm Concealer $18- SOOO creamy :)

Take the time to go into Sephora or a Department store next time your in the mall and have a Sales rep help you get matched. Or get matched and look for similar colors at your drugstore if you're on a budget.
It can really make all the difference!

Cream Perfume

I am so ready for this winter to be over, like seriously...
Where I go to college seems to be frigid cold all the time. I honestly just want to stay in bed and curl up in my comforter. Just the thought of waking up is torture, so the actual walk to class leaves me muttering curse words under my breath with every step.
I think it's impossible to look cute when it's deathly cold out. I mean, I can work with 32 degrees even, but when it dips into the 20s, that is asking too much. So I walk around looking like a burnt Marshmallow with my puffy down black jacket.
Shizz may not be the cutest thing I own. But it is definitely warm!
All in all, I just can't wait to look cute again!

On a brighter note, today I got my my highly anticipated cream perfumes from the Cream Perfume Company. I like the idea behind what the company is trying to do. The perfumes are certified 100% organic and come in these cute lil wooden containers that look like acorns. They can actually be stored in wood unlike the regular perfumes that are in glass. If you really think about it though, regular perfumes have so much alcohol in them there is really no other option BUT to store them in glass.

The containers themselves are kind of small (.35 oz) but at the price of $12-$14 each I think they are worth it and will last a while given their solid nature. The title cream perfume is kind of a misnomer because it's pretty solid and not really creamy, but because of this I think that it will last a while, like I said.

I got two fragrances: Mango Poudre and Mimosa Bouquet

Mango Poudre: I like this one most out of the two. It smells pretty sweet but not unbearably sweet. The main scent that I can pick up is Mango, DURRR lol. I'm not too keen on scents. There's definitely other things going on in there. I just don't really know. But the main gist is that it smell like ripe mango and if that's yo thang, then go for it!
Smells like there's a hint of wood? Maybe that's just the packaging...

Website description:

"Truly seductive scents of mango and cassis balanced with timeless jasmin and candy sugar accord. A tropical favorite with sandalwood, musk and vanilla."

Mimosa Bouquet: Now normally I like florals and I know this is a floral because it says Bouquet in the title. Heck if I know what a mimosa is. This one I'm on the fence about. It smells almost soapy. It kinda reminds me of a really old dusty wooden box I found in the attic that was filled with incense. I know, quite the metaphor. Now this might sound negative, but really it has character and a certain quality about it that makes me still want to wear it. Also, it fades beautifully. I like its faded smell more than the Mango actually. The smell actually takes me back to some time in my childhood that I can't quite recall. Maybe if I sniff it enough, I'll go on some Cream Perfume induced trip that will take me there lol.

Website description:

"A fresh blend of orange blossom and green notes open this very popular floral. Heart notes of mimosa, gardenia, carnation and rose of turkey follow, culminating in a fusion of vanilla madagaskar and musk."

Conclusion being, go green and save the planet one Cream Perfume at a time! JK, I can see a good amount of people not liking this, but it's a nice idea. Personally, I like it.

The website is Kaponga.com and they have free shipping. Mine came so quickly, I was impressed. Check out the other fragrances too! They have a pretty good selection.

Introduction

Hey!

I am currently a Sophomore at some public university studying Communications. I don't want to disclose where, as the nature of the internet can be quite sketchy sometimes. I have always had an insatiable inclination toward makeup and the beauty industry in general. I love everything about makeup and I am always on the lookout for the newest and most awesome product. Now, of course, I am a wee little college kid with not a penny to my name. Literally! I'm broke. So I may not know what the best and most expensive products are but I do what works best for me. And I have a minimum wage job and of course all the money goes towards makeup. LOL!
I hope to provide the World Wide Web with my insights and opinions on the fascinating world that is makeup. And I know for a fact, everyone wants to feel pretty! So what can I do to help?

:-)

I will keep you posted
